UAE says two ballistic missiles from Iran targeted maritime shipping

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — The UAE Ministry of Defense said on Tuesday evening that two ballistic missiles identified as originating from Iran were aimed at maritime shipping and fell into the sea. The ministry's statement said the missiles were assessed to have been intended to strike sea transport. The ministry said one missile landed inside UAE territorial waters and the other outside. It added that the UAE was ready to respond firmly to any threat directed at the country's security, sovereignty and stability, and reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the security of maritime navigation in the region. Earlier the same day, the National Emergency and Crisis Management Authority under the Ministry of Interior reported that air defense systems had detected the missile threat. The defense ministry did not immediately provide further details on damage or any interception attempts. The incident follows recent UAE claims that Iran's Revolutionary Guard forces attacked Emirati oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, with Abu Dhabi warning against further military escalation.
