BAGHDAD, Iraq โ The United States increased crude oil imports from Iraq last week, purchasing roughly 43,000 barrels per day after importing nothing the previous week, according to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
The modest uptick marks Iraq's return to the U.S. market, albeit at a limited volume. Iraq ranked eighth among the top 10 foreign suppliers to the United States during the reporting period.
Canada led all suppliers with 3.677 million barrels per day, followed by Venezuela at 568,000 barrels, Brazil at 414,000 barrels, Mexico at 323,000 barrels and Ecuador at 300,000 barrels per day. Saudi Arabia exported 283,000 barrels daily to the U.S. market, while Colombia, Nigeria and Libya supplied 167,000, 23,000 and 8,000 barrels per day respectively.
The figures indicate that Iraqi crude flows to the United States have fluctuated in recent weeks, hovering near zero before last week's modest increase.
