BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Two teenagers drowned in separate incidents on the Tigris River in the Mosul area, according to officials from the Qayyarah district police.
A 16-year-old boy died while swimming in the Bevize area north of Mosul, police said. Divers from the Qayyarah district police station recovered the body and handed it over to the forensic medicine department. Authorities opened an investigation into the incident.
In a second drowning, a 13-year-old child died while swimming in the Tigris River in the Qayyarah district, south of Mosul. Security officials said the two incidents occurred at different locations.
Police appealed to residents to avoid swimming in unsafe areas of the river, citing strong currents and elevated water levels.
