BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Police in Baghdad's Karkh district said two suspects were arrested within three hours following a fight in the Ghazaliya area that ended with a vehicle being set on fire. The Karkh Police Command said a joint operational force was mobilized after the incident was reported, drawing personnel from the Green Zone Police Branch, Federal Police, Green Zone Emergency Unit, intelligence units and the Ghazaliya Police Center.
A task force was formed under the supervision of the Deputy Police Commander and led by the Green Zone Branch Director, the command said in a written statement. The team carried out information gathering, reviewed security camera footage and analyzed evidence at the scene, leading to the identification of those involved in the altercation.
Investigators recovered a sound gun and a mobile phone from a motorcycle found abandoned at the site, according to the statement. The two suspects were referred to the relevant authorities and legal proceedings have been opened against them, police said, without providing further details on the dispute that preceded the arson.
