Two ISIS members detained in Sulaymaniyah operations, Kurdish security says

SULAYMANIYAH, Iraq — The Kurdistan Region's Asayish security force said two ISIS members were detained in separate operations carried out on June 14, 2026, in central Sulaymaniyah and within the administrative boundaries of Raparin. The Asayish said the operations were conducted in coordination with Iraq's Counter-Terrorism Service following an extended surveillance and intelligence effort. During the operations, a woman and a child previously held by one of the suspects were rescued, according to a written statement from the security directorate. The two detainees were taken into custody under Article 2 of Iraq's Counter-Terrorism Law, the statement said. The Asayish said investigators were working to determine the suspects' alleged links to others. The directorate added that it continues to conduct regular operations against the group's presence in rural areas of the Kurdistan Region.
