Two arrested in Baghdad for writing tribal threat on family’s home wall

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Police in Baghdad’s Karkh district have arrested two suspects accused of writing "wanted by the tribe" on the wall of a family’s home in the Shuala neighborhood as an act of intimidation and extortion, the Karkh Police Command said. According to a statement from the command’s media office, the case came to light after a report was filed through the 911 emergency hotline. The complaint said unidentified individuals had written the threatening phrase on the family’s door in order to cause fear and unease. Following the instructions of Karkh Police Commander Maj. Gen. Adnan Hasan Hamd, a special task force was formed from the Shuala police station and the area’s emergency response unit. The team reviewed security camera footage and gathered intelligence, identifying the suspects within a short period. The two suspects were quickly apprehended, taken into custody and referred to the judicial authorities. The command said it would continue to pursue anyone attempting to impose tribal sanctions or threaten the safety of residents.
