Trump to Announce Future Plans for Cuba Embargo

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the administration will soon reveal its future plans regarding the embargo on-going embargo against Cuba. In January, Washington declared a national emergency, citing threats from Cuba as a national security risk. This designation granted the U.S. authority to impose tariffs on countries providing oil to the island nation. Further tightening of economic pressure occurred in May, when Trump signed an executive order authorizing sanctions against foreign banks conducting transactions on behalf of individuals subject to U.S. sanctions. Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel stated that the energy crisis in Cuba has worsened dramatically as a result of intensified U.S. pressure.
