WASHINGTON, United States — WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump said the killing of numerous senior Iranian officials has become the main obstacle to negotiations between Washington and Tehran, adding that it is unclear who is effectively running Iran. In an interview with WABC radio, Trump said the leadership changes inside Iran have made it difficult to identify the party with the authority to negotiate, making an agreement hard to reach.
Trump maintained that the United States has continued to achieve its objectives in its confrontation with Tehran. He reiterated that preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon remains the priority.
U.S. media reports, however, indicated a rift between Trump and Vice President JD Vance over priorities toward Iran. According to the reports, Vance regards lowering fuel prices — tied to restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and securing oil flows — as the top priority.
