Trump Says Iran Wants Deal, Process Could Conclude Soon

TEL AVIV, Israel — U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that Iran wants to reach a deal and that this could happen soon, according to press reports. Trump said Israel informed him very late about its attacks on Iran, though he was eventually able to limit the scope of the strikes. Five countries from the region called Trump urging him to pressure Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and halt the attacks. The calling countries expressed support for the agreement under negotiation with Iran and voiced deep concern, Trump said. Israel and Iran carried out mutual attacks Sunday night into Monday. Tehran said its strikes targeted northern Israel in response to an Israeli air operation on a Beirut suburb in southern Lebanon. Tel Aviv said its operation targeted a Hezbollah command and planning center.
