WASHINGTON, United States — WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump said in Washington that negotiations with Iran were progressing very well and that an agreement could be reached by the weekend. He made the remarks Wednesday evening at the White House while speaking to reporters.
Asked whether the ceasefire was still holding after the latest attack on Iran, Trump said: “There is a reason for everything.” He also said the United States delivered a strong response after the attack.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said he was reviewing the texts exchanged between Tehran and Washington and working on the final wording of a possible agreement. Araghchi said the contacts had not been cut off.
Sources said Trump had sought changes to the draft concerning the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s highly enriched uranium. The Iranian side has argued that any possible ceasefire is tied to stopping Israel’s escalation against Lebanon.
