TEHRAN, Iran โ€” U.S. President Donald Trump could extend the current ceasefire with Iran if Tehran moves to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and curbs its nuclear program, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing American officials. The officials said Trump has shown patience in trying to resolve the diplomatic crisis and would consider lifting a naval blockade in return for restored navigation through the strategic waterway. They added that Trump has told advisers Iran will not be allowed to continue nuclear activities during his presidency. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran is making progress on opening new navigation routes through the Strait of Hormuz, with talks with Oman now in their final stage. He cautioned, however, that the discussions do not amount to a full reopening of the strait. Araghchi also said there are no direct negotiations with the United States and that messages are being exchanged only through intermediaries.
