Trump demands Iran compensate US for soldiers killed and wounded in past attacks

WASHINGTON, United States — WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he is demanding Iran pay compensation for American soldiers killed and wounded in past attacks, and has instructed his representatives to raise the issue in all future negotiations with Tehran. In a social media post, Trump noted that Iranian negotiators have also demanded compensation for their own casualties, and said the United States would respond in kind. He specifically cited U.S. soldiers killed by roadside bombs during the era of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, the families of those killed in the 2000 attack on the USS Cole destroyer, and other Americans who died in various conflicts. Trump also listed among the compensation claims hundreds of thousands of "innocent protesters" killed in Iran over the past 50 years and 52,000 people who died in clashes. He said the demand would be pressed firmly in every future round of talks with Iran.
