TIKRIT, Iraq โ Tribal leaders in Tikrit, in the northern province of Salahaddin, have declared their support for the government of Prime Minister Ali Zeydi, backing its efforts to strengthen the rule of law, fight corruption and pursue those accused of plundering public resources. The statement was read at a press conference on Sunday evening, according to a published communiquรฉ.
The tribal representatives called on all parties to refrain from inter-tribal conflict and to turn to the courts and state institutions to resolve disputes. They voiced support for the prime minister's work in building a strong state, protecting citizens' rights and reinforcing the standing of public institutions, while also urging cooperation with the security forces and armed forces.
The declaration said their backing for anti-corruption and reform efforts stems from a sense of responsibility toward the country's future and the rights of its people. The statement placed Iraq's national interest above all other considerations.
Several judicial proceedings have recently been initiated in Salahaddin on corruption charges, including against figures such as Ahmed al-Jubouri, Muthanna al-Sammaraai and Yazen Mushaan al-Jubouri, as well as businessman Mohammed al-Hajif. Arrest warrants have also been issued for a number of local officials in the province.
