Starlink satellite internet service officially launched in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Starlink's satellite internet service has been officially launched in Iraq, following the completion of months of regulatory and technical preparations. The announcement was made Wednesday by Buleyg Ebbu Klell, head of the executive body of Iraq's Communications and Media Commission, who posted on X that the service is now operational in the country. According to Klell, the rollout followed regulatory and technical steps overseen by Iraqi authorities, and users will be able to access the service under the rules set by the relevant authorities. The official stressed that the process was carried out in line with regulations formally approved by state institutions. The launch is expected to expand internet access particularly in rural areas and locations where terrestrial infrastructure remains limited.
