Iraq arrests ISIS 'military company commander' in operation west of Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Counter-Terrorism Service said it captured a member of ISIS known as 'Abu Noor' during a special operation west of Baghdad. The agency identified the suspect by the initials H. T. and said he had served as a 'military company commander' within the group before being caught in an ambush. According to the service, intelligence indicated the suspect had taken part in multiple attacks targeting security forces and civilians. He was handed over to the relevant security units and an investigation is ongoing. The operation was carried out as part of efforts to track ISIS cells around the capital, the agency said. Iraqi authorities have repeatedly said counterterrorism operations continue without interruption to protect public safety.
