BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Spain will rest several key players including Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams and Pedri when they face Iraq in an international friendly as part of their 2026 World Cup preparation.
The three forwards, all central to Spain's recent success, have been omitted from the squad due to injury management and fatigue. Barcelona midfielder Pedri, Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella and Manchester City defensive midfielder Rodri will also skip the Iraq match. Arsenal's Mikel Merino, Osasuna forward Victor Munoz and Real Sociedad attacker Mikel Oyarzabal have also been left out. Goalkeeper David Raya and midfielder Martin Zubimendi were not selected following their participation in last weekend's Champions League final.
Spain will continue their preparation against Peru on June 9 before heading to the 2026 World Cup, where they have been drawn in a group with Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay.
