Spain coach De la Fuente says Lamine Yamal fit to face Austria

Spain coach Luis de la Fuente said Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal is fit to play a full match at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. The 18-year-old has played 141 minutes across Spain's three group-stage games, scoring one goal, after his workload was managed following a ruptured knee tendon on April 22. Speaking to reporters, De la Fuente said Yamal's recovery was "largely complete" and that the forward could play in any position the team required. He added that the player's desire to be on the pitch was clear to everyone. Spain faces Austria in the World Cup round of 16. Yamal has been used selectively in the group stage as Spain sought to manage his return from injury ahead of the knockout rounds.
