Ship traffic through Strait of Hormuz falls to weekly low

LONDON — Ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz dropped to its lowest level in a week, according to data from Kpler. The number of vessels transiting the strait fell to 11 on Tuesday, down from 14 on Monday, with the daily total recorded at 10, below the 10-day average of 12. All seven vessels that entered the strait used the Iran route, while only one coal tanker exited, the data showed. The daily transit count reached its lowest level since August 5, 2026, according to Kpler. Before Iran closed the strait following U.S.-Israeli strikes that began on February 28, 2026, between 130 and 140 ships were passing through the waterway each day. Separately, 30 ships transited the Bab el-Mandeb Strait to the south on Tuesday, above the 10-day average of 25.
