Shia pilgrims mark anniversary of Imam Hasan al-Mujtaba’s death in Karbala

KARBALA, Iraq — Shia Muslims gathered on Wednesday evening in Karbala to mark the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hasan al-Mujtaba on the 7th of Safar, observed at the Banat al-Hasan shrine in the city’s Hindiya district. Pilgrims arriving from across Karbala and other areas converged on the shrine to take part in mourning ceremonies, with footage showing large crowds entering the site. Husseiniya processions continued as religious rituals were held within the service arrangements prepared by the relevant institutions. Authorities implemented measures to receive visitors and manage the flow of pedestrians and vehicles entering and leaving the shrine area. The condolence programs extended late into the night. The Banat al-Hasan shrine is among the major sites that draw heavy pilgrim numbers during religious occasions, particularly on the anniversary of Imam Hasan al-Mujtaba’s martyrdom.
