Eleven own goals have been recorded at the 2026 World Cup, more than double the five goals scored by Argentina's Lionel Messi, the tournament's leading scorer, according to the count from matches played so far. Seven of those own goals were scored by players from Arab national teams.
The list includes Egypt's Mohamed Hany, Iraq's Ayman Hussein, Jordan's Yazan Al-Arab, Qatar's Mohamed Mannai and Mahmoud Abu Neda, Saudi Arabia's Hassan Tambakti and Morocco's Yassine Bounou. Paraguay's Damián Bobadilla, Switzerland's Miro Muheim, Australia's Cameron Burgess and Uzbekistan's Abdulvahid Nametov accounted for the remaining four own goals.
Qatar stands out as the Arab team hit hardest by own goals, conceding two across two separate matches. Behind Messi in the scoring charts, France's Kylian Mbappé, Norway's Erling Haaland and Brazil's Vinicius Júnior are tied on four goals each.
