Seven ISIS members captured in Sulaymaniyah, handed over to federal authorities

SULAYMANIYAH, Iraq — Seven ISIS members hiding in and around Sulaymaniyah have been captured and handed over to federal authorities, the provincial directorate of Asayish announced. The operation was based on intelligence information, and the detainees were previously part of the group's armed ranks, the security body said. The Asayish said the individuals were wanted by Iraqi courts under Article 4 of Iraq's Counter-Terrorism Law. They were transferred on August 18, 2026, to the relevant federal institutions, with the handover carried out according to the jurisdiction where the alleged crimes were committed. Officials said investigations and legal proceedings will be handled by the appropriate authorities. The operation is part of ongoing efforts to address ISIS presence in the city, according to information reported by Iraqi media.
