Saudi Arabia tells Iraq its territory must not be used against neighbors

AMMAN, Jordan — Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan told Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein that Iraqi territory and resources must not become a "tool of attack" against neighboring countries, according to a statement from the Saudi Foreign Ministry. The meeting took place in Amman on the sidelines of a ministerial gathering in support of Jerusalem and the holy sites. The two ministers discussed regional developments and reaffirmed the depth of Saudi-Iraqi relations, the ministry said. They also stressed the need to strengthen Iraq's ties with Arab and Islamic countries and to support development and stability for all the region's peoples. The talks come against the backdrop of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani's planned visit to Saudi Arabia, which was postponed late last month following airstrikes on Iraqi territory carried out by U.S. and Saudi warplanes. The trip has since returned to the agenda after regional and international mediation efforts, with officials saying the rescheduled visit is expected to cover security, economic and investment issues.
