MOSCOW โ Russia's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of attempting to cause a nuclear disaster in Europe, alleging he is trying to undermine safety at Europe's largest nuclear power plant.
Zakharova made the remarks in a written statement issued by the Foreign Ministry, which accused Ukraine of striking a dry storage facility for spent nuclear fuel at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant on Thursday. The ministry said the attack reflects what it described as increasingly reckless conduct by Zelensky and his circle aimed at undermining the safety of the facility and triggering a catastrophe.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said it would continue raising the situation around the plant with the international community, citing risks to nuclear security. No further details on the alleged strike or the condition of the facility were immediately available from independent sources.
