WASHINGTON, United States — WASHINGTON — Two Washington residents filed a federal lawsuit Monday seeking an emergency injunction to block a planned mixed martial arts event at the White House, citing violations of federal regulations governing use of the historic grounds. The event, scheduled for June 14, is branded as "UFC Freedom 250" and coincides with President Donald Trump's 80th birthday. The plaintiffs argue that permits issued by the National Park Service and the Department of the Interior are illegal and should be revoked. According to the filing, the event would violate regulations prohibiting sporting events on the South Lawn and at the Lincoln Memorial. The plaintiffs also contend that congressional approval is required for construction of the large temporary structure planned for the venue. Federal Judge Amit Mehta directed both sides Monday to propose a schedule for addressing the emergency request. The White House rejected the lawsuit as "baseless and obstructionist," stating the event is no different from other gatherings held at the property throughout the year.
