BAGHDAD, Iraq โ A fast passenger train was struck by stones in Maysan province, lightly injuring a railway worker and shattering the windows of two carriages, according to security sources. The attack occurred while the train was moving along the route between Huwaymah and Sawaya.
The injured employee was taken to Hussein Teaching Hospital for treatment. Authorities have opened an investigation to identify those responsible and determine the circumstances of the attack.
The rail line carries heavy passenger traffic between Najaf and Karbala during religious visitation periods. Security forces continued their examination of the scene and surrounding stations, while officials said security measures along railway routes would be reinforced to prevent similar attacks.
