KIRKUK, Iraq โ One person died and another was rescued in separate drowning incidents at a water project south of Kirkuk, according to a security source.
A 28-year-old man identified as Muter Halef Muhammed drowned after entering the water at the Zab water project. Authorities sent the body to forensic medicine and opened a legal investigation.
River police teams rescued a second young person who entered the water at a different point of the same project. The source said officers' quick response saved the young man's life and his health condition was checked.
Authorities have called on citizens to stay away from dangerous areas as summer temperatures rise and swimming in unsafe locations increases.
