BAGHDAD, Iraq — Nineveh’s members of Iraq’s parliament said they opposed recent administrative changes in the province, arguing that the appointments were based on political party representation rather than merit, integrity, expertise and experience. MP Jamil al-Hadidi said at a press conference in parliament that the province’s institutions were not the property of any political party or political group. He cited the appointment of a new director for the Social Welfare Department at the request of a political formation represented by only one MP, and questioned the appointment of a new president for Northern Technical University the previous day. The MPs called on the prime minister to intervene urgently and investigate the legal and administrative basis for the decisions. Hadidi said that if the changes continue, they would adopt a unified political position in parliament and pursue all constitutional and legal remedies.
