BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's Nasr Alliance said that announced investigations into the use of state resources for election campaigning have validated its earlier decision to boycott the polls. Alliance spokesman Ahmed al-Wandi said the decision not to field candidates was driven by political responsibility rather than political calculation, reiterating the bloc's June 27, 2025 announcement.
Wandi said the investigations announced by Judge Dia Jaafar reflect the alliance's aim of safeguarding its political future and building a democratic system grounded in the rule of law. A second spokesman, Aqeel al-Ridini, said the probes confirmed warnings the alliance issued on June 27, 2025 about political financing and vote-buying.
Spokesman Salam al-Zubaidi said the use of state resources for election campaigning undermines the legitimacy of political representation. He noted that the alliance, led by former Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, has continued to call for electoral reform.
The Nasr Alliance said the investigations carry warnings regarding election integrity, the honesty of the political process and the credibility of political entities. No further details were immediately available on the scope of the announced investigations.
