Meteorologist Sadiq Attia has issued an urgent warning for travelers and individuals with respiratory conditions across Iraq as a significant dust storm approaches the country. The alert follows satellite imagery and planetary modeling indicating widespread cloud movement and the formation of cumulonimbus clouds across central and northern regions.
Forecasters expect thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rainfall to persist through Friday, particularly in the central and northern provinces. These weather systems are projected to generate wind speeds reaching 60 kilometers per hour.
High winds are anticipated to increase the concentration of dust and airborne particulates, leading to a sharp decline in visibility. Attia cautioned that desert regions are likely to experience the most severe reductions in visibility starting tomorrow.
Authorities advise motorists to exercise extreme caution on intercity roads during the period of inclement weather. Residents with respiratory health issues are encouraged to take necessary precautions as air quality levels fluctuate.
