Meta has confirmed a technical fault that caused some WhatsApp accounts to be placed under review without prior warning. Users on X and Threads reported in recent hours that their WhatsApp accounts had been blocked or flagged for examination, with login attempts returning a message stating that account activity and device information were being checked for compliance with the service's terms, normally within 24 hours. A Meta spokesperson said the company continuously takes action against misuse of its services and blocks accounts it deems risky, but acknowledged that errors can occur and that steps were being taken to restore affected accounts. With more than 3 billion monthly active users, even a small-scale disruption on WhatsApp can reach a large number of people. The spokesperson added that Meta was working to reinstate access to the affected accounts as quickly as possible. The company did not provide further information on whether the fault was limited to specific regions or what initially triggered the review process.
