Messi suspends Inter Miami duties indefinitely after father's death

Argentine forward Lionel Messi has indefinitely halted his activities with Inter Miami following the death of his father, Jorge Messi, Argentine media reported. Messi, who won the 2022 World Cup with Argentina, left the United States and returned home to be with his family. He is reported to be in Rosario, where his 68-year-old father died on August 7 at a local hospital after a long illness. The 38-year-old captain missed Inter Miami's Leagues Cup match against Monterrey, which the U.S. side lost 1-2 at home. Rodrigo De Paul scored the lone goal for Miami in the 32nd minute and celebrated in tribute to his Argentina teammate and former captain. No date has been set for Messi's return to training or matches. Argentine media also reported that Messi plans to take legal action against journalists who published images and photographs from his father's funeral.
