France forward Kylian Mbappé has condemned a Paraguayan senator who directed racist comments at him on social media following France's 1-0 victory over Paraguay in the round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. Mbappé scored the only goal of the match from a penalty. The tournament is being hosted across the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Paraguayan Senator Celeste Amarilla de Botchia responded to a post about the striker with a remark claiming that the player had been fed coconut milk instead of breast milk, adding that the most concrete thing known about chimpanzees was that they did the same. Mbappé shared a screenshot of the senator's post and said she did not deserve her office and did not represent Paraguay.
Mbappé also wrote that the senator's ignorance and racism had made the world forget the historic run Paraguay's national team had made at the World Cup. French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari also condemned the comment as unacceptable and unbefitting of a politician.
