ERBIL, Iraq โ€” A drone strike attributed to Iran hit a headquarters of the Iranian Kurdish opposition group Komala (the Kurdistan Organization of the Kurdistan Free Life Party, PAK) in the Darishkeran area west of Erbil on Sunday morning, leaving nine Peshmerga members wounded, the group said. Komala said the munitions contained white phosphorus and triggered widespread fires in the surrounding area, calling the use of such weapons a clear violation of international humanitarian law during armed conflict. The party called on the United Nations Secretary-General, the Security Council, the Human Rights Council and the International Committee of the Red Cross to initiate legal action against Iran. The statement also urged the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government to confront Iran's military strikes. Komala official Ribaz Sharifi said eight Peshmerga were wounded in the attack, with several reported in critical condition. The Kurdistan Region Counter-Terrorism Department said an Iranian Kurdish refugee camp in the same area was separately targeted on July 13 by three bomb-laden drones in intermittent strikes, though no casualties were reported in that incident. No immediate statement was released by Iraqi or Iranian authorities.
