Kuwait says air defenses engaged Iranian drones, declares Iranian attack repelled

WASHINGTON, United States — KUWAIT — Kuwait's military said its air defenses engaged Iranian drones on Friday afternoon, attributing loud explosions heard in the country to the intercept operations. The army accused Iran of what it called "treacherous aggression" and urged the public to follow the instructions of security authorities. The developments came hours after Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps announced the launch of the 27th wave of its "Nasr 2" operation, targeting Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan and the Kurdistan Region. The Gulf Cooperation Council states and Jordan had issued a joint statement on Thursday condemning Iran's sustained attacks on their territories. The confrontation between the United States and Iran entered its second week, following US President Donald Trump's announcement on July 8 that the ceasefire memorandum signed on June 18 had collapsed. Washington has called for freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, while Tehran has insisted on regulating ship passage through the strategic waterway.
