Kurdistan Women's Union announces winners of Erbil book-reading contest

ERBIL, Iraq — The Kurdistan Women's Union announced the results of a book-reading competition held in Erbil, with six women winning first place after advancing through a semifinal round of 14 participants. Ziba Taha, the union's general secretary, said 300 women from across the Kurdistan Region took part in this year's contest, which was assessed by a jury of history specialists. The competition used "Barzani and the Kurdistan Liberation Movement," written by Masoud Barzani, as its core reading material. Following jury review, six contestants were awarded first prize. Taha said the award carries the name of Mihabad Kirdaghi, described by the union as a leading cultural and intellectual figure in the Kurdistan Region. The prize was named in his honor, according to Taha, in recognition of his contributions to the women's movement and cultural production in the region.
