Kurdistan Region president meets Russian ambassador to Iraq in Erbil

ERBIL, Iraq — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received Russian Ambassador to Iraq Elbrus Kutrashev in Erbil, the Kurdistan Region Presidency said in a statement. The two sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between Russia, Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, as well as the Region's internal situation and the relationship between Erbil and Baghdad. Both parties stressed the need to expand dialogue and mutual understanding to resolve outstanding issues, according to the statement. The talks also covered contacts linked to a recent agreement between the United States and Iran aimed at supporting lasting and inclusive peace in the region. Barzani and Kutrashev also exchanged views on the latest developments in the war in Ukraine, the presidency said. Russia's consul general in the Kurdistan Region also attended the meeting.
