Kurdish lawmaker says Kurdistan Region's daily oil allocation falls short of population share

BAGHDAD, Iraq — A lawmaker from the Kurdistan Democratic Party told Iraq's parliament that the Kurdistan Region, home to more than 14% of Iraq's population, should receive a daily crude oil allocation for local consumption of more than 180,000 barrels, but is currently allotted fewer than 50,000 barrels. Benas Duski said Iraq's total daily crude oil allocation for domestic use stands at roughly 1.3 million barrels, a figure that would place the Kurdistan Region's share above 180,000 barrels. He outlined regional daily needs of more than 7 million liters of gasoline, 2 million liters of diesel, more than 2,000 tons of liquefied gas, 50,000 liters of jet fuel, and additional quantities of white oil, calling the supplies essential for vehicles, hospitals, generators and factories. The lawmaker asked the Oil Ministry to disclose the legal criteria used to distribute fuel among Iraq's provinces. He framed the issue as a constitutional right of millions of Kurdistan Region citizens rather than a partisan matter, and said it had been raised through a parliamentary question directed to the Oil Minister, with the request forwarded to the Prime Minister. Duski urged the Prime Minister to take concrete steps to ensure equitable distribution of fuel across all provinces.
