Kurdish corner opens at Damascus International Fair for first time in 63 years

DAMASCUS, Syria — A Kurdish section opened at the 63rd Damascus International Fair, marking the first time Kurdish heritage has had a dedicated space at the annual event since its launch about 63 years ago. The display features copper vessels, musical instruments, traditional Kurdish clothing and handmade textiles. Mohammed Suleiman, director of the Kurdish corner, said the participation carries symbolic meaning, noting it is the first time a stand has been opened on behalf of Kurds at the fair. Performances by the "Welat" group, featuring the Kurdish folk dance dengbej, were also staged at the section. Fair officials said the aim of the section is to show that Kurds are an integral part of Syrian society and to provide a space for presenting their cultural identity.
