WASHINGTON — The Washington representative of the Iranian Kurdish opposition party Komele said Iran’s long-term stability can only be secured by recognizing the country’s ethnic and national diversity. He said a sustainable political vision must reflect that diversity.
The representative said Iran includes several ethnic groups, including Persians, Kurds, Azerbaijanis, Arabs and Baloch. He called for shared sovereignty, decentralization and equal rights for all components of the country.
He also referred to recent attacks on Komele offices in the Kurdistan Regional Government, saying they had been hit by dozens of missile and drone strikes. He denied reports that the group was receiving weapons aid from the U.S. government.
