Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has confirmed he was approached by the German Football Federation (DFB) about the Germany national team head coach role following Julian Nagelsmann's departure. Speaking as a commentator on Magenta's World Cup broadcast in New York, Klopp said the federation is searching for a new coach and had been in contact with him.
Klopp left Liverpool two years ago and said at the time he was not ready for another role. He now says he has largely regained his energy and is prepared to take on a new position. He continues to serve as head of global soccer at Red Bull.
Germany was eliminated by Paraguay on penalties in the round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup, a defeat that preceded Nagelsmann's resignation. Klopp said the issues facing German football go beyond a change of coach and that the sport needs deeper reform.
Klopp added that a final decision on the appointment is unlikely to be reached quickly.
