ERBIL, Iraq โ A senior Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) official said the party is ready to support the reactivation of the Kurdistan Region's parliament and the formation of a new government without preconditions. Kamal Kerkuki, a member of the KDP's Political Bureau and head of its Relations Office, told reporters in Erbil on Wednesday that his party is open to all efforts to revive the legislature and establish a new cabinet.
Kerkuki was responding to an initiative by Mohammed Haji Mahmoud, head of the Kurdistan Socialist Democratic Party, who had proposed reactivating parliament as a first step for political parties. Kerkuki said the move was the right path to ending the political stalemate in the Kurdistan Region, and that parties must meet their legal and political responsibilities to restart the legislature.
He noted that voters had placed their trust in their elected representatives and emphasized that the KDP holds the largest bloc in the Kurdistan Parliament, making it the authority responsible for deciding on the formation of the next regional cabinet. Kerkuki added that the door to dialogue remains open.
