Jordan is marking the 80th anniversary of its independence while maintaining political resilience amid regional crises and geopolitical shifts. Over eight decades, the kingdom has navigated wars, economic shocks and major regional transformations while strengthening its state institutions. The country, whose strategic importance extends beyond its size, has continued to project a balanced and steady political posture in a volatile region. Its understanding of independence has evolved beyond commemoration into a settled political culture in which national decisions are made with confidence. Jordanโ€™s historic Hashemite custodianship of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem remains a central part of its identity and state mission, particularly on the Palestinian issue. Under King Abdullah II bin Hussein, the kingdom has pursued a rational policy of balance in response to rapid change and unrest across the region. While safeguarding its national interests, Jordan has sought to preserve stability through a state tradition built on the Hashemite legacy. The Jordanian public has also reinforced that resilience through contributions in education, work and production, strengthening the mutual trust relationship with the state.
