Israeli report says Mojtaba Khamenei is wounded but inside Iran

Israel's Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported, citing security sources, that Iran's leader Mojtaba Khamenei is in Iran and wounded. An unnamed security official told the paper that Khamenei is alive and that his guidance is still being awaited inside the country. The Israeli report said there was no official confirmation from Israeli authorities that Khamenei had left Iran. Yedioth Ahronoth also quoted an unnamed senior Israeli official as saying that Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Ahmed Vahidi has been writing all statements for Khamenei, and argued that Khamenei is not a significant figure in practice. Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared in public since the opening strike of the joint Israeli-U.S. operation "Lion's Roar," in which his father, Ali Khamenei, was killed. All of his statements have since been released in written form. The New York Times previously reported that his absence has reopened debate inside Iran over who is actually running the country. Iran's Health Ministry spokesman Hossein Kermanipour said in May that Mojtaba Khamenei was taken to a hospital around noon on Feb. 28 with minor injuries to his face and legs and was discharged on the morning of March 1.
