Israeli media says plans are in place for a possible Beirut strike

WASHINGTON, United States — BEIRUT — Israeli media reported on Wednesday evening that plans are in place for a possible strike on Beirut in the coming days. Channel 13 said Israeli officials believe Israel could target the Lebanese capital soon. The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation reported that U.S. President Donald Trump said he was in agreement with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Lebanon. Trump said his relationship with Netanyahu was “excellent” and that they had reached a common position on the Lebanon file. Lebanese presidential sources said negotiations between Lebanon and Israel in Washington had not yet made major progress. The fourth round of talks began on Tuesday at the U.S. State Department under U.S. supervision. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun also told Washington, through the speaker of parliament, that he had received assurances that Hezbollah would abide by a comprehensive ceasefire if Israel also committed to it.
