Local sources said an Israeli military unit advanced into the Yarmouk Basin area in the western countryside of Deraa province on Sunday, moving in with military vehicles. Soldiers detained a shepherd near the border line between the villages of Al-Arize and Marre and took him to an interrogation center.
The shepherd was released several hours later after questioning, according to the same sources. No further details on the circumstances of the detention or the shepherd's identity were immediately available.
The sources said the operation is part of a series of Israeli incursions and detentions carried out in recent months in the countryside of Deraa and Quneitra, which border the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The incidents reflect continued Israeli ground activity along the Syrian frontier despite an informal ceasefire arrangement in the area.
