Iran's parliament speaker says country must break war-peace cycle

TEHRAN, Iran — TEHRAN — Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Iran must break out of the cycle of moving between war and peace, warning against miscalculations by officials during a period of rising regional tension. Speaking on Tuesday, Ghalibaf urged authorities to base decisions on careful assessments, saying the country needs to reach a position where it can make strategic choices. Ghalibaf said Tehran does not seek war but stands ready to defend its security and national interests. He added that Iran must be prepared for any scenario and act with full national strength when required. The parliament speaker had previously said the era of one-sided understandings had ended, arguing that the other side must either honor its commitments or pay the price for failing to do so.
