DAMASCUS, Syria โ An initial Syrian investigation has determined that ISIS carried out Tuesday's explosions in the capital Damascus, which wounded 18 people, according to a senior Syrian security official. Internal security forces conducted the probe in coordination with the General Intelligence Directorate, tracing one cell member before identifying the rest of the network.
Interior Minister Anas Khattab said earlier that once the investigation concludes, the identities of the cell members, their assigned tasks and their full network of links would be made public. Two explosive devices detonated Tuesday near a hotel where French President Emmanuel Macron had stayed overnight.
The attack cast a shadow over Macron's visit, the first by a European Union head of state to Syria since the ouster of Bashar al-Assad.
