Iraqi Student Leverages Language Skills to Foster Cultural Ties with Germany

Mustafa Al-Ashra, an Iraqi student, successfully secured a Schengen visa and traveled to Germany in 2023 after completing intensive German language studies at the University of Baghdad. His academic pursuit remained uninterrupted throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, driven by a deep interest in Germany’s post-World War II reconstruction and national identity. Al-Ashra’s proficiency in the German language and his comprehensive cultural preparation were instrumental in his successful visa application process at the Netherlands Embassy in Baghdad. The diplomatic mission recognized his qualifications, facilitating his entry into the Schengen zone. During his visit, Al-Ashra engaged with various aspects of German society, noting his admiration for the country's urban planning, cycling infrastructure, and commitment to cultural diversity.
