Iraqi security arrests 13 in electronic fraud sweep in Diwaniya

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraqi security forces arrested 13 people in Diwaniya on Wednesday during an operation against an electronic fraud network, the National Security Service said. The suspects were apprehended during a meeting held at a hall in the city center after judicial approval was obtained. Officials said the group attempted to lure citizens with promises of high profits and investment returns through network marketing schemes. An initial investigation found the network used deception to collect money under false investment headings. The suspects and seized materials were handed over to the relevant authorities. In a separate incident, a fire broke out in a plastic materials warehouse in the Mahkmaila district of eastern Baghdad. Firefighting teams extinguished the blaze, and the General Directorate of Civil Defense reported no injuries, with damage limited to property. The directorate requested a police investigation and the deployment of a forensic evidence specialist to the scene.
