Iraqi Premier League to Launch 20-Team Season on August 14

The Iraqi Football Association has scheduled the start of the 2026-2027 season for August 14, featuring a 20-club lineup. The league opening will coincide with the Super Cup tournament. Referees will be supported by an advanced Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system throughout the upcoming season. League fixtures are slated to take place weekly on Fridays and Saturdays. The Super Cup will feature the top four teams from the previous season. Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya will face Al-Zawraa, while Al-Shorta is set to compete against Erbil.
